Product Review: Darcy's Botanicals Natural Coil Curling Jelly

Even though I already have a list of staple products, I like to experiment with different products to see what might work better. I'm currently looking for a good curl definer for my wash and go's to enhance my natural curl pattern and give me some frizz-free hold.  I came across Darcy's Botanicals products a while ago and decided to order a few products. The first one I've tried is the Natural Coils Curling Jelly.

At $12.00 for 8 oz., it's really not too expensive and it's 100% organic. It promises definition, softness, sheen, hold, healthy conditioning, easy detangling, etc. Here's some information straight from the website:

Product Information:
HOW DOES THIS WORK?

Our Natural Coils Curling Jelly works to enhance define your natural coils and waves while also giving you hold, softness, and healthy conditioning.

WHAT'S IN IT?
Distilled Water, Organic Aloe Juice, Vegetable Glycerin, Organic Virgin Coconut, Organic Brown Rice Extract, Castor Oil, Xanthan Gum, Hydrolyzed Oat Protein, Potassium Sorbate, Fragrance, Citric Acid & Organic Sea Moss.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Fine Hair With Looser Curls & Waves (Types 2 & some 3's)

*Apply just a nickel to quarter size throughout damp/clean hair.
*Then use your fingers to style or rake the jelly throughout your hair and allow it to air dry.
*Then scrunch curls into place using your favorite leave-in or hair oil/butter for added softness.

Curly Coils & Waves (Type 3's)

* Use fingers to apply throughout small sections of clean/damp hair.
* TIP: Can also seal with a light oil or butter for added softness and to seal in moisture. Many of our customers also apply a light leave-in conditioner to damp hair BEFORE applying jelly:)
* Allow hair to air dry.
*Then scrunch scrunch curls into place or leave as is and style accordingly.

Tighter Curls & Coils (Type 4's)

*Use fingers to apply throughout small sections of clean/damp hair.
*Seal with a light oil or butter for added softness and to seal in moisture.
*Then 2 strand twist or braid each section.
* Allow hair to air dry.
* Take down twists or braids for superb definition.

The Natural Coils Curling Jelly can also be used to style twists, braids, and locs. It is an excellent gel for holding and re-twisting locs. We have found that it works best when hair is clean & damp or lightly spritzed with water before applying. However, it can also be used on clean dry hair as well:) Remember when using natural products, a little truly goes a long way.

My opinion: I've been using this to style my wash and go's and puffs for the past month.  I love Natural Coils Curling Jelly for slicking back the front of my hair for puffs. I especially like this curling jelly for the spring and summer because it is light. It has a sweet-ish scent, a watery/gooey consistency, and really enhances my curls.  My lose spiral waves are transformed into tight well-formed ringlets. It also makes my hair really soft and shiny.  The ingredients are awesome and I like the way my hair looks with it. The major con for me is that it doesn't have enough hold, so it causes my hair allot of shrinkage, as per the picture below. When i do wash and go's, my hair usual touches the bottom of my neck. WIth this product, my hair didn't even reach my chin. The product is also really sticky. I'm not too sure I'd buy it again because it wasn't THAT great. But, I will certainly use it up happily.

Overall Rating: B

The back of my hair styled with the curling jelly. #Shrinkage to the extreme.
