Tropical Dream

We found love in a hopeless place, or something like it,
Among the hills and valleys, flower beds and river bends,
Without a care in the world, we promised each other "forever". We should have known better,
Promises burn us backwards.

My memories are these,
Sipping on coconut dreams and contemplating eternity under palm trees,
The hypnotic sound of Kompa set our bodies ablaze under the scorching Haitian sun,
Was it the heat that made your breath taste so sweet?

The stars we gazed up at during the cool evening spoke to us of our fate, but we ignored them, intoxicated by the mystery that
I close my eyes and smell the saltiness of the ocean we escaped to in Port Salut and naturally, I reminisce about you.
